Right to Live Society (RLS) was launched its summer camp events for year 2009 in Gaza and Khan Younis, under the slogan "Together in the House…In Spite of The Siege." The camp includes about 1000 children, of whom about 650 with Down's Syndrome and 50 with Autism, beside 300 normal children from the local community. The camp activities will continue until the end of July 2009.
The camp includes all RLS beneficiaries whom enrolled into its rehabilitative centers (HRH Prince Al Walled Bin Tala Center for Down’s Syndrome, Welfare Association for Community Integration and Inclusion, The Spanish Center for Vocational Rehabilitation, and Training and Community Development Center), and receive specialized rehabilitation services through its rehabilitative programs (Early Intervention Program, Kindergarten Program, Special Educational School, Pre – Vocational Program, Vocational Program, School integration Program, and Autistic Children Rehabilitation Program).
This summer camp comes to ensure RLS integration philosophy for disabled people with their natural peers. Although, the participants from normal children are belong to marginalized area (Al Sheje’ya, and Southern Kan Younis), these areas are poor with summer camps, and summer games, and subjected always to the Israeli army attacks. So, we find that they children are suffering from many psychological problems
The camp includes many of corners, activities and entertainment, including games, recreational activities, ceramics works, painting, embroidery, handicrafts, and bamboo works, as well as arts, songs and paper aircraft manufacturer. The camp also includes many of the cruises and field trips inside the Gaza Strip.
Mrs. Adala Abu Middain, RLS Board Chairperson, ensure that the summer camp slogan this year comes in the light of the legendary steadfastness of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, despite the suffocating siege and vicious war in the Gaza Strip, which left massive destruction and left many victims in addition to the negative psychological effects on children, especially in the areas of contact with the brutal occupation.
Mr. Mohamed Al Areair, RLS Executive Manager, also ensure that the choice of the slogan of the camp was to promote dialogue and to call upon the Palestinian internal division of the parties of the need to restore national unity and reunification and overcome the internal crisis of the division to meet the challenges facing the daunting fate of our people and our Palestinian issues, saying that what is represented by interdependence and cooperation among natural and disabled children in the camp is a model of joint action and unity in order to reach the lofty goals. |
